On running without a strapless differential ------------------- This doesn't really relate to the ? of early vs late strap and location, but I noticed a couple of people mention running strapless. DO NOT run strapless, not only is the mount expensive and easily damaged, but with the diff moving in unintended ways other items such as the driveshaft U-joints can be damaged. I don't recommend either the solid mount or chains, cables, etc.. We experimented with making straps out of nylon web material and making them shorter so that they were in contact with the diff all the time. That worked OK but we then came up with a cheaper alternative. We sell an adjustable buffer which bolts into the stock strap. It is made of polyurethane and can be adjusted for preload against the diff. This approach still gives the flex of the stock strap but limits the total movement so as to prevent damaging the stock mount. It also allows you to control the amount of initial movement before the strap starts to work. This has worked great and is far less expensive than any other option. It woks best with a good mount but even a damaged mount can be used if the buffer is adjusted tight enough to hold the diff down all the time. In this case the mount prevents downward and sideward movment of the diff and the strap prevents upward movment. Marc "always thinkin'" Sayer Performance Engineering
