For Diffs:
We use the same procedure in my shop. One thing we have played with is 
putting an access hole through the brace behind the diff so we can 
install (and more importantly remove) a "square hole" type filler plug. We 
then use a drain plug in the filler hole. This makes it easier to get the 
filler plug out (I've had some that were in so tight I had to take the cover
off to get them out) since the "square hole" type plug wont round off like
the "square snout" type filler plugs will.

We can the insert a 1/2" drive extension in through the access hole into 
the new style filler plug. The other nice thing about this is that the 
filler plug is magnetic too then. Keep the access hole as small as 
poosibble. Just barely big enough to fit the extension through. i 
recommend deburring the hole and then sanding it smooth to prevent strees 
cracks.

For Trannys:
For trannys I just use a regular gallon bottle of whatever oil I am going to 
use and put a super cool little hand pump on it. The hand pump has a hose 
with a neat little nozzle on the end that is designed to fit inot the filler 
hole and grab on, so that it will stay there by itself. You then pump the 
oil with the hand pump, into the tranny.
